Gifted Education 2.0

Real life collaboration regarding all issues in Gifted Education

My kids and I have recently begun geocaching and wouldn't you know it, I've been asked to present on the topic now!

Honestly, I know very little, but if I share some of my resources with you, potentially helping a total newbie out, could someone a bit more experienced help me out with some of the nuances that we are missing?

My resources can be found by clicking here.

For instance, do I really have to pay for a premium membership at Geocaching.com? Do we have to leave a "Cutsie" thing at the caches we find or can we just leave a poker chip with our names on it?

How do you set one, how have you tied it to curriculum (if you even tried to), and how long does it take? I'd hate to set one, then have the kids do it and bang, that's it. Seems a lot of invested time for one hunt and then simply maintenance there after.

Help me understand how *really* cool this can be!

Ginger,
I have no experience with this but I do know that Sally Dobyns presents at Confratute each summer and at several regional conferences on "Educaching: A High-Tech Scavenger Hunt Through the Curriculum."
Good luck, I'm sure it will be fun.

I have no experience either but Annette Lamb at http://eduscapes.com has done it and has done workshops on it. Her entire workshop will probably be online and if you email her she will answer any questions you may have.

Learning about Geocaching is still on my to do list, but Girl Scouts USA has put together an Interest Project on this at http://www.studio2b.org/lounge/gs_stuff/ip_tech.asp.

Also, our local LL Bean store does a weekend walk-in discovery program where you can try out this GPS stuff.
