Anyone had experience with using RTI model with Gifted Students. I know Carolyn Coil has a new book coming out in August, but was wondering if anyone has a "hands-on" experience. I am a GT Specialist and have just been assigned to 4 Title 1 schools.
IN Kansas, we're just beginning to see RtI (we call it MTSS) implemented. Gifted is under the special education umbrella, so we've been doing some similar processes for identication - such as interventions to determine needs. The state supports the idea of including high ability learners. In my district, we've been using RtI for about 4/5 years now, easing into the process. We had a committee last year looking at interventions in reading - still nothing solid yet, but at least working.
One Title I school that I work with has done a great job of providing high end interventions. They use staff to work not only with those below benchmarks, but also above. They group on the grade level for ability grouping, and then do some additional work in small groups.
I am the intermediate RtI facilitator and the GT facilitator at my elementary school. I am learning this as I go. What is the book you are referring to?
