How are these hard economic times hitting gifted services in your area and what innovative solutions have been found or considered to help combat that proverbial axe?
I wonder if by sharing our stories we could find ways to help one another by also sharing solutions. What do you think?
For the first time in 25 years we lost all gifted ed paraprofessionals (10 district wide) and 5 middle school gifted ed teachers in the budget cuts. I hope that doesn't signal the beginning of the end.
I am in a middle to high economic school system. After 12 years, they have eliminated my Secondary TAG position grades 7-12 . The elementary TAG teacher will serve k-8 and the high school students will be served by the guidance department. I am devasted and so are the students.
Here too, we are downsizing the gifted staff. Luckily, it looks like I remain in gifted world for a bit longer. We may have to stop some of the services for the unidentified gifted because there is just not enough time in the day to do it all. Our first priority needs to be to the identified- if we HAVE to choose.
