Hi Robin,

Zac read Matthew's message and asked when he could reply. I believe he has another book in the Zac Power series to recommend to Matthew.

I haven't received your email yet. Would you prefer the boys to continue corresponding on this website?

Cheers,
Donna

Hi Robin,

It's lovely to see the two boys getting to know each other!

I have given some thoughts to our sharing views and experiences on the same Comment Walls with our dear little boys, who are likely to be the main subject of conversation. Also, we never know who else may be reading their correspondence in this venue! So I have just created an email account for the boys to correspond. (I have created an adult profile for the purpose of registration. They want my credit card details otherwise. )

Sorry for spreading my paranoia, but the cyberspace is not necessarily the safest for children at all times... Would you wish to do the same for Matthew?

If you are happy with this arrangement, please email me at donna_tfw@yahoo.com and I shall reply with Zac's email address.

Yes, I did edit Zac's last message, to take the u out of "favourite" (which is also the way we spell "colour" etc here), and to make the ideas flow a bit more smoothly for his new friend - there were so many things Zac would like to talk about, so the ideas were everywhere. I do not plan to keep doing that, unless I find that his typing speed is inhibiting him from expressing himself. Zac reads and spells well otherwise. He has been graded the highest reading level by his school, whatever that means.

Regards,
Donna

Zack,

I know where Australia is my mom put a map on the bathroom wall and everyday I get to look at it. I know australia has a lot of sharks. I swim in the ocean everyday with ;my mom and Dad. I would be scare to swim in the ocean where you live. Are you scared? Do you like the ocean? I like to boogy board and want to learn to surf. I have never heard of Gitar Hero 11 or Zac Power. But I looked it up and I thought it was so cool so mom said , we could go get Guitar Hero 11 and order the book Zac Power frozen fear that one sounds cool. Do you have that one? It is Sunday and Mom said, to get off the computer. I have to go on a bike ride. I will email later. Good bye Matthew I will try to sent a photo of me. Later.

Hi Matthew,

I live in Sydney, Australia. You can find it on the world map.

I like playing the video game, Guitar Hero II, when I go to the shops. At home I enjoy reading more. My favorite non-fiction series is Horrible Science and my favorite fiction series is Zac Power. And I love most of the books by Roald Dahl. What are your favourite books?

I was reading More Murderous Maths in my carton box cubby house this morning. I'm doing Math on Aleks.com but enjoy HeyMath more because there is more animation. You should try both. Heymath is for Grade 5-12 but you will catch up soon enough.

My birthday is coming up and I'll be 7 then. My classmates are 8.

In Zac Power there's 24 hours to save the world and...
Walk the dog, get home for dinner, finish his homework, clean the bathroom, wash the dishes, put out the rubbish, and so on.

I even made a tent with dad!

Reply soon,
Zac

Hi Robin,

How's home-schooling going?

My son is using an on-line Math program. He spends less than an hour on it per WEEK, since he needs to go to school and do homework etc. Yet he has still managed to cover a whole year level's program (out of his grade level) in 8 months. Imagine how much Matthew can master at home with the program if he is equally passionate about Math! Let me know if you are interested and I'll give you a weblink. I believe there is still a free trial. (If Matthew doesn't read quite as well as he does Math, you may need to sit with him and read out the text.)

Here's one of Zac's favourite Math tricks for Matthew - Use a calculator to key in 3000+4000+300+400+30+4 divided by 100 divided by 100 =

Then turn the calculator around and look at it again.

(It should come up with "hELL0".)

Cheers,
Donna

Hi Robin,

Greetings from Down Under!

My son is 6 years old. He is into most things other than sports and art. In Australia it is our Term break at the moment. Zac has just compiled a Powerpoint presentation on food additives, and is working on a bushfire emergency plan for our family - the bushfire season has started early this year.

I salute you, Robin, for your dedication to your son's education. Just the idea of homeschooling overwhelms me. I hope Matthew's older siblings have helped to tutor him some of the times.

Matthew is a very lucky boy!

Best wishes,
Donna
