A little about me:
I am mother of 2 kids- 5 and half year old and almost 3 yr old. The elder child was tested, as her teachers reported she was advanced for age. Not as a surprise she is in the 99%, with 199 cognitive ability. She is a avid reader, great talker and has humongous attention span. But recently she just wants to imitate the younger kids. She is entering KG in our home school. The whole school system is new for us as we are new to this country, and then having a gifted child is making us nervous.
Time has flown... Kids have grown.. Thought should add how the experience has been so far in public school. It has been just awesome. [My daughter who is 7 now]She is in a regular setting as our home school district doesn't have anything for advanced kids until 3rd grade. But us as a parent and my daughter as a child never had any problem keeping her excited about the school. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Melton and her 1st grade teacher Mrs. Dunn have done a fabulous job of keeping her going and learning far more in depth. So any parent who are concerned about how your child will do in a public school setting in a regular class, please be assured all teachers try their best and if you can work with them. The end result is way better.
She has improved a lot. She could read at 6th grade when was in KG. But comprehension was at 3rd, Teachers help her gain confidence and improve there. They are doing a project on polar animals and the whole class has been divided in group of 2 or 3 children for this project. She is doing by her self. She is very proud of herself and a very confident child. These little things matter, play a far more imp role and def think letting my daughter attend the public has been a rewarding experience.

Thank you.

The question you sent to me would be TERRIFIC under the help/feedback forum. I think this is a question that many parents have and the question/answers deserve to have a public place (other than my page)!

If you want help figuring how to post that, let me know!

Welcome in Ekta! I think you have a blessing and yet also a struggle ahead with your child. I encourage you to ask for help and feedback here with your situation; you should be able to gather some good ideas and resources.

As the first resource I'd recommend, you may want to find the link on the main page to the Washington State gifted association and look seriously into membership. They have a wonderful group who would be able to give you quality local assistance. Good luck and let me know if you have questions/concerns about anything on the network!
