Stuff I wanted to tell Ginger after the NAGC Convention

I learned a ton at the convention in Tampa.
Then I came back to my classroom with the broken (this is week 3) computer!
And when it is ever fixed, it is old and slow!

I spent today showing 5 of my student groups the new Shelfari I put on my website for their parents. I was using a borrowed laptop, incidentally.
I will be working on another Shelfari for the kids' page of my website. I have been wanting to make a booklist for them, and Shelfari really fits the bill, because they want to look at it, since it is so cool.

I want to make podcasts!
I asked some kids about iPods and one of them said she has listened to an audio book on her dad's.
But the stuff you showed us is free, so I will have to tell them about that, and get them started.

GInger replied:

This is awesome! Thanks for sending me your thoughts. Shelfari is PERFECT for kids! If you create a class account and give them the "keys" they can share, review, and recommend books to one another. They'll LOVE it!

You know? Your note to me would make an awesome first blog post...have you ever considered blogging? You'd be archiving your first steps into this world and showing so many other teachers that it *is* possible! Your energy, voice could really help so many others!

All you have to do is click the "blog" tab at the top of the page and get to going (copy/paste your note to me as your first post)! It doesn't have to be "earth shattering" or ground breaking. Often, simplicity and honest thoughts are magic to a blog! The blog will also let you see how far you've come in this journey as you add to it. On tough days, reviewing your own writing will boost you. I promise.

Ok, enough of the pressure.

You want to podcast? I can send you some great first-timer's tools. Are you on a Mac or a PC?

Now I'm replying:
OK, Ginger, I have a PC at school (it's named after Louis Leakey, because I think he dug it up in Africa on an achaeological expedition), and at home I have a Mac and a PC laptop. So send away with Podcast instructions.

You never told us how you manage not to buy a computer...I'm waiting.

hee hee! I'm glad you posted that! I think if we make more of our interactions transparent here, it's more of a community!

I wonder what others think of your first blog post?
