A little about me:
I am an Educational Consultant and the parent of two gifted children. I graduated from Brandeis University with Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and worked as a career counselor and Assistant Director of Career Planning at Clark University before moving to the business world as a financial analyst. During the stay at home mom years, I volunteered extensively in the classrooms and eventually decided to pursue a Masters in Education, concentrating in gifted education, at the University of Connecticut. More recently, I was the TAG Advisor for Superior Elementary school and currently serve on the BVSD district TAG Advisory Committee. I am a member of NAGC and CAG/T and a founding member of a new Boulder CAG/T affiliate. My research interests include technology as a tool for differentiation, a method of providng adaptations for twice exceptional students and technology as a hook for underachieving students.

I look forward to sharing ideas with you all.

Gifted Kids Network

I am looking for gifted students to pilot a new gifted programming model. Ideally the students fit into one of the following categories: homeschooled, live in rural location, living in poverty, English language learners, or other GT students who are underachieving in their current situation. If you are interested in learning more about this pilot program please contact me: michelle@giftedkidsnetwork.com

Thanks, Michelle. I did see the program but we are not great animal lovers. I might still encourage ds to enrol just to get a taste of a virtual classroom.

Ds is more into Math and Chemistry, but he has started doing some history projects in school and is quite comfortable with that. I'll give it some more thoughts and come back to you on suggestions later.

Thanks a lot,
Donna

Hi, Michelle.

Congratulations on creating the enrichment network! I saw a few courses being offered, but my son is a 3rd Grader. Any plans of offering something to enrich the learning of the slightly younger ones please?

Regards,
Donna

Hey, thanks for the heads up on my NAGC presentation. Isn't that exciting? Some of the KGTC veterans (and who are NAGC Board or Committee or whatever members) had put in proposals and they're dragging me along! They know I've never been to an NAGC (personal funds just are too scarce) and so are kind of forcing me to budget and plan. Another lady put me on as co-presenter too, but we haven't heard back whether or not we're in.

Funny though, online NAGC has my school listed incorrectly. I've not worked at EMS for 2 years, and instead am working at Turning Point Learning Center.

But that's all good. I'm going to get to meet Dan Pink in person there in Tampa, instead of just talking with him in video conferences!

Let's be sure we're in communication coming up to the Conference and we'll have a real-life meet and greet. OR MAYBE we'll have a GE2.0 meet and greet one of the days! We totally should! What's a catchy name for that...?

<<You'd think with George Betts and Stuart Omdal in your backyard things would be going well in Greeley.>>

Hi Michelle,

I hate to say it, but both George and Stuart have been invisible and were "involved" locally on paper only. I understand that they are busy, but you'd expect they could have come to District GT Advisory Board meetings every once in a while. As it was, they did not even once attend!

Hi Michelle,

I perused your website and find your logo for the affiliate very appealing!

I hope your district is willing to actively involve your affiliate. In Greeley I closely worked with the GT district coordinator for eight years until she retired. We co-hosted meetings and she sent out invitations to parents of GT kids, something I could never have accomplished by myself.

Because of the change in leadership two years ago (which coincided with her retirement) and the focus on CSAP due to academic watch status, GT has been put onto the back burner. In fact, the district (with the blessing of our schoolboard) has pretty much put me on the side lines. I have no more access to parents or GT teachers. (There's been enormous turnover since the new superintendent Renae Dreier took control.)

This is the reason why I have resigned from my position. Since no one is willing to carry on, the Greeley CAGT affiliate has ceased to exist. An oddity is that I have not heard any response from CAGT!

Hi Michelle,

Do you know Jill Maxwell? She's starting up a CAGT parent group at a school (name escapes me) in Boulder.

Hello Michelle! I'm excited to see a Colorado person in here, mostly because I know that CO has great parent support going on there! :)
